New: mix slides, quiz questions and polls in one set

Slides, quizzes and polls. One game.

Put a welcome slide, a few quiz questions and a poll in the same set, in whatever order you like. Everyone joins once and stays on the same code until the end.

One session, start to finish

Teach it, test it, ask about it.

Here's a team kickoff built as one set. Scroll through it the way your players would see it.

01Slide

Open with a slide

A welcome screen, the agenda, the house rules. You write a slide in Markdown and pick a layout. The Title layout centres it.

Example: a Title slide reading "Q3 kickoff", with "Grab your phone. We start in two minutes." under it.

02Quiz

Check what people know

A quiz question has a right answer and scores points. When you close it, everyone sees the answer and the leaderboard moves.

Example: the quiz question "What year did we open the Denver office?" with the choices 2016, 2018, 2019, 2021. 2019 is revealed as correct, and Priya moves up the leaderboard past Marcus into first place.

03Poll

Ask what they think

A poll has no right answer and nobody scores. Turn on live results and the bars fill in while people are still answering.

Example: the poll "Where should the next offsite be?" filling in live: Lisbon 21, Denver 9, Montréal 6, Somewhere with no Wi-Fi 4.

04Poll

Hear from the whole room

A word cloud takes a word or two from each person. The more often a word comes up, the bigger it gets.

Example: the word cloud for "One word for this quarter?", where "focused", "ambitious" and "busy" came up most.

05Slide

End on the number that matters

The Big number layout puts one figure in the middle of the screen, with a line under it saying what it means.

Example: a Big number slide reading "12 days", with "until the new booking system goes live" under it.

Eight question types

Any of them can be a quiz or a poll.

Mark a question as a quiz and it has a right answer. Mark it as a poll and you're asking what people think. Word clouds are polls only.

Quiz or poll

Multiple choice

Pick one answer from a list. As a poll, you see how many people picked each option.

Quiz or poll

True or false

Quick checks between harder questions, and statements people tend to get wrong.

Quiz or poll

Number

Set a tolerance so close answers count, and add a unit. As a poll: mean, median, lowest and highest.

Quiz or poll

Typed answer

People spell things differently, so list the other answers you'll accept.

Quiz or poll

Slider

Drag between a minimum and a maximum you set. The classic "from 1 to 10".

Quiz or poll

Ordering

Put steps, dates or sizes in order. Items are shuffled for each player.

Quiz or poll

Matching

Tap an item on the left, then its partner on the right.

Poll only

Word cloud

Everyone sends a word or two. The most common words come out biggest.

Slides

Write it in Markdown. Pick a layout.

A # for a heading, a - for each point. The layout does the rest, and there are three more for slides built around a picture you upload.

Title layoutThe Markdown you write:
# Q3 kickoff

Grab your phone. We start in two minutes.
Section layoutThe Markdown you write:
# Round 2: Geography

Five questions. No phones, apart from the one you answer on.
Default layoutThe Markdown you write:
## Today

- What changed this quarter
- A five-question quiz
- Where we go next
Two columns layoutThe Markdown you write:
## Rent or buy the cameras?

**Rent:** nothing to pay up front

---

**Buy:** cheaper after 18 months
Quote layoutThe Markdown you write:
> Half the room thought we had already launched.

From last month's team survey
Big number layoutThe Markdown you write:
# 73%

of last quarter's support tickets were password resets

Running it

You choose how the polls behave.

Pick your set from Play as usual. Nontrivial works out the kind of game from the set, and if it has polls in it, you get two extra settings.

Show live results

Players watch the answers come in while a poll is still open. It's off by default, so the first few answers don't sway everyone else.

Anonymous responses

Hide who answered what, for the questions people won't answer honestly with their name attached. Each person can still answer only once.

Polls never touch the score

They're left out of points and accuracy. A game with only slides and polls has no winner and no leaderboard at all, which suits a meeting better than a contest.
